I moved from the Triangle (Raleigh-Durham-Ch. Hill) in NC; it is as overpriced as fuck and there was little, if anything, to do. On the one hand, the damn illegals were driving up the rents and driving down the wages (since Raleigh is a 'sanctuary city'...oh joy), and on the other hand, there were cheaper credits to be had elsewhere.

Now I'm 5 minutes from the WV border in SW Virginia. Cheap rent, cheap credit-hours for the EE degree, and the cheapest electricity in the nation. Still nothing to do, but I'm able to re-invest 50% of my earnings into my 'hedge fund'. This easily offsets the irritation from the ever-pervasive anti-intellectual climate and the stupefying social conservatism.

I lived in southern Alabama for sixteen years, now I live in Idaho...only difference other than the climate is the accent. Oh...and the potatoes.

I like living in Idaho...but there are just certain things about the south that keep me a southerner at heart. 8)

This guy walks up to at work one day. I think he was from Boston or something and asks me if I can find him a wy-ya-tie. Of course I didn't know what the hell he was talking about. I thought he was asking for some sort of drink so I directed him to the bar telling him to ask them. A few minutes later his buddy comes back and tells me his friends belt broke and he needed something to hold his pants up. A wire tie.

Most people in the north hate Bostonians and New Yorkers too.

My peeve is with people from Long Island. I have my reasons.
