So, I got a new system and monitor, and considering what I was running before (and had been using for years), this is a pretty major upgrade.

(-previous system P3 550mhz, 10gb hd, 256mb ram, old generic video card, plain cd rom, no burners...

-new system, Intel Dual core 2.2ghz, 160gb hd, 2gb ram, ATI Radeon HD 2400 Pro, LG DVD burner..both running XP Pro SP2)

I thought I was quite comfortable with everything, but now I am a little overwhelmed by all of the new specs and settings.

One of the first things I could use some help with, is tweaking my monitor and video card settings so that the brightness, colour and contrast look right, because after doing a lot of fiddling around, I still find that it's too bright and looks washed out.
My new video card has a control centre, but nothing I do seems to make things look "right", nor does messing with the controls on the front of the monitor.

Any suggestions? Halp?

The monitor is a humongous Dell (not HD or anything fancy, just BIG), and my video card is an ATI Radeon HD 2400 Pro. Could there be an issue between my video card and my monitor, or do I just need to do more fiddling around in the ATI control centre? Admittedly the ATI control centre is new to me, so I am not completely comfortable and familiar with it yet...

Okay, so now the whole display issue doesn't matter at all because there are far worse problems.

So um, Fallen has been kind enough to try and do what he can to diagnose and help on his end, but so far we don't seem to be getting to the problem, and it looks like a hardware issue.

Anyone an expert and want to come to my apartment and fix or replace my hardware?

Anyone?

....

*crickets*

:Sad Devil:

Maybe I'll mention that to my dad if he doesn't want to pay to ship it back or replace some hardware or have it serviced. You know, tell him that I know of 2 people that would be perfectly willing to help, if he pays for them to fly here :P Might give some perspective on potential costs in terms of fixing this damn thing. :P

I'm glad my dad doesn't visit this forum.

My brother did once, but it was just to check if he could get on, when I couldn't. At least I think he's only been here once. :i:

An update for anyone who's actually following this (which is as far as I can tell, me :eye roll: )....

Long story short, I am currently on my old system, as it came to my attention that no heat sink compound was used when the new one was put together. That should be taken care of by tomorrow afternoon, and I guess at least it won't make anything worse, and perhaps might even, dare I say, fix the locking up issue. And from what I've gathered, the compound should be in there to begin with, and could've lead to worse issues down the road, if that's not the cause of the problem to begin with.

You can always get the compound yourself and then do it yourself instead of paying someone else...lol.

It's a non issue now; the motherboard turned out to be a dud. I've got a new motherboard and all is working great now :)
