lol, I've never done it ... and suddenly I have a reason to. So ... any advice, etc would be greatly appreciated.

There are scripts such as phpbb and XMB or even SMF which many people use to make forums. Generally, they're pretty easy to use and the first two, especially, are common among the 'amateur' boards. However, if you use a script, you'll need a host who will support it and whatever it needs. Mysql, php, perhaps cgi, etc. Chances are, you'd have to pay for that and if you do have a host who supports those things, they might even have a tool to install a forum for you - for free.

Otherwise google ProBoards (or Ezboard) which will host your forum and I think install it. I've never used it personally but many people do.

It turned out alright.

A lot of people dont agree with me on this but I have several forums and the absolute best if you have a busy and active community in my opinion is Forumotion.com!
They are Fast, realiable and with a little work, you can make them look just as cool as any other forum.
