Thats a little short sighted and arrogant isnt it? Are you saying sports have no redeeming social and physical value to people? Or are you saying that intellectual pursuits are just better? I think you're not allowing yourself to separate your own particular preferences from the assertions you make.

It can be a force of social change.

Yes it can. Music can also reinforce stupidity, high school mentality, and mindless consumerism. Most music in fact. Most music that people here listen to in fact.

In the end, almost all music is produced, packaged, sold and bought for entertainment, making it fundamentally no different than the production of sports television. It's no better or worse.

Hell give em a salary in the hundred thousands, they can still live plenty well. But oh wait maybe not with 17 cars.. and we couldn't have that could we?

Some athletes are overpaid compared to what other athletes accomplish....yes. Athletes salaries actually function much like regular workers salaries (albeit on a little higher curve) The top 50 guys in some sports make 1/4 to 1/2 of the entire payroll. Most major sport guys make between $200,000 to a mil, and that's after spending several years in minor leagues working for regular Joe checks if you're a baseball or hockey player. Hardly outrageous for being in that small percentage of people that can play the sport at their level. Some of those top 50 guys slack off but still get their fat checks because they signed a contract, while another guy puts up better numbers and gets paid a fraction of the other's salary. The problem is with a few people, not everyone....and even more so the owners of the teams. Most of what goes into the job being a successful musician is the same shit athletes do. I fail to see a really good argument about the value of one over the other.

:fku: I just get a little upset when I see these mother fuckers playing a goddamned game, or pretending to be someone else (actors and shit like that) or singers, or any other fucking entertainers making a fucking shit ton of money, when I get shot at and risk getting blown the fuck up for a living, and all the while, get paid peanuts to do so.

There is something fucking wrong with that shit.

///End of Rant///

Sorry, had to get that out there.

musiscians are every bit as overpaid as any athelete out there..

some bimbo flashes her titties a bit, wiggle ass and have some clever producer work over her song and lyrics, so she doesnt sound anything remotely like herself..and *wham* slam the bank in the face with a good fresh amount of cash.

btw, nobody is paid a cent more then they are worth to someone else.

Nike endorses artists as well, not only atheletes. it all started around the time when RUN DMC, made the song about adidas.. and slam.. guess who got his own shoe and a fat cheque from them ;)

companies pay people for their image, not what ever skill they bring to the table, and its by far not the "best" who get paid the most, its the people who can work the media and push a style/product the best that gets the monster cashouts.

The way I see it is this: If I'm a key player in something that makes millions of dollars, regardless of how useful the whole production might be to society, I'd want my share.
If people don't like to see sports or movie stars pulling in millions then stop supporting them; 'just don't look, just don't look'.

Music can CHANGE the way you think and feel about something. Often times for the better.

It can be a force of social change.

I am with you on maybe not paying all these lil pop tarts and friggin ppl that don't A. write their own music or B. even play a damn instrument (or C. not even able to sing ty autotune) all the millions either.

but frankly i dont care if some baseball player has to 'go to a press conference' about the game the night b4. Tough job. he has to answer pre-chosen questions, to which the answers have already been thought out ahead of time. and he sitll goes home with a pay check in the millions.

They're overpaid pure and simple which is the point I was trying to make.

Hell give em a salary in the hundred thousands, they can still live plenty well. But oh wait maybe not with 17 cars.. and we couldn't have that could we?

I think you're missing the point, they do play a game yes, but they also WORK to be as good as they are at said game, in baseball the season spans almost the entire year, thats day in and day out of practice, traveling, actually playing the game, etc etc. Then the off season rolls around and guess what? thats another 3 months of training for 8 hours a day.

Gammon had the best example, they are the best few hundred at what they do, do you think the best few hundreds at other professions don't make large amounts of money as well?

I should have addressed this a while ago, but its usually (with some exceptions) the case in sports that the best athletes ARE the ones getting the big salaries, the huge endorsements, and most of the media attention. Fans dont get to choose who plays on the teams they support and owners generally dont hire players based on their looks or any criteria other than how much they can help to produce wins.

In music, the huge incomes and promotion goes to whoever can be molded to push the most easily digestible and profitable product and create the image that panders directly to peoples small imaginations.

Does that mean sports may actually be slightly more dignified when it comes to who's being handed the cash?

Why don't we complain about women's wages compared to men's wages. Men in similar positions get paid more than women on average.

Why don't we compare your wage to someone working their ass off in a field in a third world country. i think you should donate half your wages to them. Seems fair.

You all cry because the kid next door has better toys than you. Be grateful you have your health, friends, free time, loved ones, hobbies, clean water, etc you snivelling little bitches.

Can all of you say you work hard at what you do? do you actively go out and make other people's lives better?

They are playing a sport... not just a game... that requires dexterity, strength, endurance. if it were easy... you would be doing it.

Sports have no meaning in peoples lives? How about encouraging youth to be active you stupid twats, and not to be fat little spoiled wastes of space glued to the TV. how about encouraging kids to work as a team, friendship, and other useful skills.

Know what I hate more than people who make millions of dollars? The people who feel entitled to their money or how they should spend their money.

That's life.
