I already knew that Bob Stoops who is the coach for the Oklahoma Sooners, gets paid millions of $ a year to coach. Ya I know Florida beat'em last night. Any way back to my rant.
I read this morning that Stoops received a 3 million dollar bonus just for lasting 10 years as the head coach. WTF.
There's people that work 30 years in the same place and might get a fuckin watch.

Coaches and pro athletes are so dam over payed it's bullshit. Why the fuck ya think your Reeboks cost so dam much.

I realize the revenues the sports teams can bring to the colleges if they win a lot, which Oklahoma does. But does a guy need a 3 million dollar bonus. Could that money be used for the college, for say books so they aren't so expensive, or maybe into more campus security.
Or into more scholarship funds, teacher wages, even school budget so it could lower the cost of admission.

Thank you

think of them as commodities ..

Real Madrid bought beckham for about 150 Mill dollars, they went on tour in japan with him, parading him around, sold enough t-shirts and so on on hisname alone to make it worth it for them in investing.

same goes for those other athletes..

Or how about actors?? 10 mill for 2 months of work on a movie?? even if they work 23 hours a day.. the money they get is insane..

ahh well, so many things arent fair ..

Well why we are on the subject I would like a 3 million dollar bonus..HA HA. No but seriously everybody that is into anything with a name makes ridiculous amounts of money. Especially when society endorses it by buying all the crap that they sell in order to keep it going.

No not like that..Totally just reread my post and realize it makes me sound like a complete moron. I meant that people who are involved with things that have brand name labels and anything that is "famous" make ridiculous amounts of money. I see nobody wanted to give me a 3 million dollar bonus..LOL..Oh well I supposed that raising 2 sons and making sure they become decent productive members of society doesn't deserve 3 million dollars..Although it would sure help...

I get what you';re saying....but that was actually the point though.

People who are really into any field of arts, for example, tend to think that it's a dignified profession cuz it's like...creativity man.... and wouldn't see a problem with the producer of a masterpiece making millions of dollars from it.

But they see someone in sports doing the same and thinks it's excessive, because for whatever reason they may think that sports is not useful or dignified work......and vice versa.

If you make art, or write books and songs, and sell them....you're selling a brand.

If you start a grocery store and market your produce...you're selling a brand.

The only thing that makes an artist, an athlete, and a shop owner different is their understanding of the others' profession.

Keep in mind that anyone who plays a professional sport tends to one of the best few hundred at that sport out of BILLIONS of people.

If someone were one of the best few hundred architects, welder, merchandiser, guitar builder, pizza maker or whatever...they'll probably be a millionaire too.

Mom's don't get the credit they deserve...but if maybe if you're one of the best hundreds of moms...you'll have a millionaire child. Or at least a very cool one.

I have to say that I completely agree with you. I believe that if you have worked hard to earn the money then you deserve it. Too often in life though people take shit for granted and act like the world owes them something. I must be on of the best hundreds of moms because my child is totally cool already. Ha ha. He's only 4, but hopefully he does turn into a millionaire. I want to see him make something productive of himself.

I'll bet everyone here would take the money if it were offered, though. I know I would...

I would at least make an effort to put some of it back into the "neighborhood"
At least 100grand for a fund that I most would like to help.
But yeah, I'd take it and say thank you sir, may I have another LOL

oh of course they're overpaid.

dont you know North americans are anethetised by sports?

Hell look at every pro athlete ' i do it for the love of the game'

bullshit. If they got paid what a walmart greeter gets paid they'd go haul boxes in a factory tomorrow.

I'm not saying they SHOULDN'T be paid but come on. You whack a ball with a stick or throw on some pads and toss a pig bladder around with a bunch of other sweaty men. You dont need to be bringing home a $10 mil paycheck when the rest of us are busting our asses working jobs we HAVE to work not that we LOVE to work.

Because European/South American/African football players aren't worshiped (and paid) like gods....

I think it's kind of unfair to simplify an athletes job like that. Being a professional baseball player, for example, isn't just about trotting out on a field with a glove for 2 1/2 hours of work. You essentially live at your job from February through October and spend as much time each year just traveling from city to city and checking into hotel rooms as other people do raising their children. You work 28 days a month during the season and start your day 8-10 hours before the game running through mandatory exercise regiments, studying charts, graphs, and statistics, meeting for press and team functions, eating prescribed meals, and then go play the actual game. If you suck at work for one day, your boss may be the only one who pays attention....like anyone else's job. If you suck at work for a week straight, you'll have thousands of people telling you about it. All you can do is go to sleep and prepare to do it all over again the next day.

I'm not saying that's all misery, but it's definitely hard work, and not every person is cut out to handle something like that, let alone retaining physical skills that allow you to be a professional athlete in the first place. I wont even get into the health aspects of being a football player. I'll just point out that the average pro NFL player's lifespan to this point has been about 8-15 years shorter than the general population's.

Again, I could easily make this oversimplified comparison to successful musicians.

"You get off a bus and go strum some chords or hit things with a stick....you don't need to bring home millions of dollars for selling some plastic to people"

yes but they are playing a GAME. at least music (well depending on the artist) has some social/intellectual value to it.

Music can CHANGE the way you think and feel about something. Often times for the better.

It can be a force of social change.

I am with you on maybe not paying all these lil pop tarts and friggin ppl that don't A. write their own music or B. even play a damn instrument (or C. not even able to sing ty autotune) all the millions either.

but frankly i dont care if some baseball player has to 'go to a press conference' about the game the night b4. Tough job. he has to answer pre-chosen questions, to which the answers have already been thought out ahead of time. and he sitll goes home with a pay check in the millions.

They're overpaid pure and simple which is the point I was trying to make.

Hell give em a salary in the hundred thousands, they can still live plenty well. But oh wait maybe not with 17 cars.. and we couldn't have that could we?

Sure they are. but thats ONE sport that, essentially, the rest of the world gets behind.

where as we divide our attention and money between... football (NFL), baseball, hockey, Nascar (if your from the south :P), fuck umm... bitching about minorities (what? is that not a sport? I see it so much on tv i just assumed...)

so we are tossing alot more money down the sports fund well than england or spain
