So after all the fuss of pirates on the internet downloading movies and supposedly not going to the theater so the rich can be richer ...

2008 was a banner year ... how is that possible??

well imo maybe its because there were actually good movies to go see?!?!

Anyone else sick of remakes??

I totally agree with you. unfortunately, many of these huge hit movies, although very good, were sequels or adaptations. I long to see something new. Doesn't need to be great, but at least not filled with clichés nor something we've already seen a few times!

*sigh*

hollywood's getting lazy!
that's why this year I watched almost exclusively old, cheesy horror flicks^^

John Nicholson never had a better role than that of the masochistic young
gentleman in "Little shop of horrors" who doesn't want novocaïne when he goes to the dentist,
because it "dulls the senses"!

Hollywood just needs to create new ideas
and bring more creative film directors.
there are only a handful of film makers that can make really good movies

i almost never go to the movies, unless the film is worth watching
i usually rely on websites where you can watch movies online, no need to download, hehe :Evil fuckin grin:
plus, its not like as if the film industry isnt making enuf money :P
its not much of a big deal, really.

theres been a bit of a fuss here about it

certain movie companies have held trailers out of Canadian theaters apparently because more cam jobs are coming out of the country (mostly Montreal it appears) and thus people are seeing the movie at home rather than at the movies (so they claim).

However i think this is just idiotic on the part of the companies... how will people know if they want to see a movie or not if they dont play the fucking trailers??

hehe, one of my brother's in laws taught me a very provocative lesson in entertainment
You need to hinge on the audience. Shorter trailers based around thought provoking dialogue. It reminds me of the quote from the film Big Lebowski " People forget that the brain is the biggest errogenous zone ".

Ummm, I won't take on the subject of remakes so to speak
However if you ever get the chance you should check out the original Roller Ball starring James. Caan.
Or Dead Zone starring Christopher. Walken. (I haven't seen the tv series so I have no opinion thus far sorry)

If you dig around the import section at your local video store you just might find a diamond in the rough
I particularly like the haunted school series (I think that was the title) films like Memento Mori (it is a work of art.
Memento Mori is a latin phrase that means " Remember The Dead " ) or Wishing Stairs (I haven't seen this one per say, but it is in this series I think). I believe Tartan video released these dvds

There is also a spanish film that came out a couple of years ago with terrific acting called Amores Perros (loves a bitch).

Perhaps movie theatre attendances and revenue are down, but I know the last several times I went to see a movie it sure didn't look like it. In fact, the second last time I went to see a movie (at one of those massively huge theatres no less), every movie playing was sold out, and the parking lots were insanely full. We went to a different theatre and the lots were full there too, and we had to buy a ticket for a later show well in advance, so to me it sure looks like people are still going out to see plenty of movies in the cinema.

Agreed about the remakes. Not only are there so many remakes lately, but they are also making remakes that just seem to be ridiculous and redundant to me, like Fast and Furious for example.

by banner year I actually meant that after the fuss about people pirating big movie companies made out like bandits as movie attendance was up.. but i re-read what i wrote and it isnt worded the greatest heh

interesting how by just attending a few movies you can see the increase in attendance tho!

Oops, that was my bad. That's what I get for reading and posting when I'm still half asleep and my brain isn't processing things correctly, hah.
