something i have been thinking about for a bit now and its really stupid and simple, but at the same time complex thus confusing me.

heres the thing:

lets say you have 2 orbs (saying 2 balls invokes too many puns  )

1 orb of lead, and 1 orb of copper

first trail experiment: have orbs at a starting point on a hill with a steep grade down. set the orbs in motion, now gravity dictates that the an object with the greater mass would move faster, its own gravity pulling itself downwards. the object with less mass will do what? in my thinking it less mass therefore gravity will not affect it the same way it would as one with greater mass. the orb with the greater mass will move faster and reach the bottom first.

second trial experiment: using the same principles of physics described above place the same 2 orbs in a cannon, using the same amount of explosive force to eject them out, which one will again have the greater velocity, and which one will stay in the air, longest, and which would travel the farthest?

my personal thoughts on the second would be that the copper orb would be the one to stay in the air the longest, and maybe, the furthest. reasoning? it has less mass therefore gravity will not affect it as it would the lead orb, the copper orbs would not be affected by gravity as quickly as the lead one would be, therefore granting it longer air time and maybe greater distance.

yes dont mind me, i just like to come up with little brain quizzes that i think about, and theorize about.

There is your first problem. Newton proved that regardless of mass the two orbs would roll at the same rate. On Earth the only reason one might roll slower than the other would be because of wind resistance or friction. When Neil Armstrong walked on the moon he dropped a feather and a hammer and they both hit the ground at the same time. The only reason this wouldn't happen on Earth is because the feather has greater wind resistance.

DAMN IT REN
beat me to it :Sad Devil:

and as for the second trial
You’re right, the heavier orb would be in the air for less time the less heavier one
But again not to do with gravity
You have to think about this in terms of force upon mass transforming to kinetic energy
it takes more force to move an object that weights more
and if the trial uses the same amount of gun powder then the same amount of force will be exerted on the objects but because led is heavier the copper, led will gain less of kinetic energy, thus making it fly over a shorter distance then the copper orb

Does it have to do with the fact that the hollow one has air? One would be more buoyant than the other.

Well, since I got it wrong and no one else is trying, why don't you spill it?
