just for the hell of being competitive or to promote some activity in the writing section, ive taken it upon myself to institute a little contest. never done one before so if you wanna refine it a bit, cool.

the contest is this:

write a short story that=
-is 500 words or more long
-has at least 2 main characters
-meets these story guidelines=
---the draft has been reimplimented
---a war is being fought against something supernatural, or a supernatural creature
---must have at least one entry from the other side(the supernatural whoozawhatzit) and explain what they are doing/feeling/thinking/whatever in that entry or following entries.

basically your character has something to do with a draft in some shape, way or form, and there is a supernatural war being fought, thus the reason for the draft. and you need an entry from the other side of the plot.

hope that isnt too demanding, anyone up for this? or any suggestions on something needing to be changed? as soon as we get 3? people interested....we could get it started, and then have each story rated by readers here on NO for best characters, best plot, best detail, whatever. no need to put someone on a pedestal with gold, silver and bronze. rate em by category.

bit demanding though, aren't we!!??? I think I can work around that. But I wouldn't mind leaving out the being drafted... But as long as some journaling from one persons perspective was reasonable I think I can make it work. I'm getting a visual of some dude in his barracks recounting things as an opener.

---has one character fighting in a war(whatever is being fought over or who is fighting who a dominant theme)

---must have at least one entry from the other side(the supernatural whoozawhatzit) and explain what they are doing/feeling/thinking/whatever in that entry or following entries.

btw infinite, if you wanna make some suggested changes and repost what i had up for guidelines, or even have an idea of your own for the contest, go ahead throw it up, maybe someone will like your's better than mine...

Well I don't want to put out too many suggestions. I don't want to give out my entire plot, you know? It's like I had a great entry visual, and want to go with that. If it fizzles out then we should definitely widen the entire plot guidelines... Its a great idea. I'd like to perhaps come up with another one if we finish this one. Just go with the flow of the General Guidelines for this Writing Contest... Which can change each time another competition arises. I can be pretty diplomatic when needed ;p

I'd like to make a mythological creationism story or just a story of mythological creatures. Its a very broad topic at the moment, just brainstorming.

So lets go with what you got, I say wait a few more days, and if no one else wants to compete we just do this... :D

On a second thought it reminds me of Role Playing. D & D that is.

and yea, mythological is definitely in. that was something i aslo thought of when i threw in the supernatural part.

I'm in, sounds fun I-I don't really think of it as a competition. I have the original draft for the next story me and my brother are working on but I think I might go for something different entirely. Reading the new guidelines

I was thinking of a plot like the germanic Beowulf, ancient curses. The world is a...seperate world again however things are more complicated all around for this new story.

necro if you mean to have beowulf as your story that is fine. it dosent have to be set in modern times. ancient modern or futuristic all work. any timeline tense works, or even alternate reality, and rules. be creative and as long as everyone agrees lets go with the second set of guidelines i posted.

i still say we wait till weds. i threw out a bunch of invites to drum out activity for this, so lets see if anyone else is interested.

It's a story me and my brother we're talking about. I write most of the dialogue around Tony's characters (still haven't begun working on it due to working on Revenant Strain so this will be fun to start a new project with you guys), it's early on so I could add a few characters both of our story plots and Art Direction I write with him. The story is called Lords of Chaos, or it was called that but I seen a book with that title so we'll have to find a new title

It takes place in alternate reality, but the twist is bringing yourself back to reality
Some of them are terminally ill patients, it gets much deeper.

That sounds awesome Chaos! If you would like help you could run a search on Hitler's Nordic armies, or Nordic units? The pre apocalyptic era, maybe the search for the holy grail or the Oracle of Delphi. Oh sorry, just giving you ideas to get the creative juices flowing

To make this fair and versatile we can have category prizes
Best historical representation
Most original plot
Best shoot out/battle sequence
etc.

I can definetly tell the story from both sides. The problem is I don't know how long this story is going to be yet but i'll try to meet all of the guidelines if I don't finish so as not to stop the contest.

I chose the 1930's, but the world is also early 1980's architecture
I felt both timelines reflect a dark/noir atmosphere to the world. The main influences for this story are more emotional, Magnetic Rose from the film Memories, Beowulf, Cool World, Animatrix (some of which also worked on Magnetic Rose.) =)

one thing i suppose i have not done yet, is find someone to judge this so called "contest"

m thinking about asking pyretta, she is usually a good judge of things and does the PoHf. maybe also lucifera.

need to send them an pm and ask. any objections to them as judges? or should we just judge each other, and do this for the fun of seeing what we come up with?

another note i realized i didnt not specify is when these stories should be submitted by...im thinking, about 2 weeks? enough time to get a plot, write it up and revise it the way you want. does that sound good to you guys?

That sounds cool, more categories would be better for writers with strength in various degrees of writing.

I just started working on the first scene today to be fair (me and my brother weren't going to start writing this so early but what the hell heh) he came up with the characters except for the reality scenes, and I wrote most of the dialogue from his notes of one of our characters and added in some new plot lines for another character so yeah, most of the writing department is my headache

I won't need his help from here, we already know where this story is going so i'll just work with his and my own notes. He is more of a visual artist then I am.

So yeah I think that would be a fair balance. Best character, Best dialogue or emotionally gripping scene you know? Although I think 2 weeks is alittle slim of a time period, maybe we could end the first round there and have new categories like best plot twist, or set the deadline for 2 months to give everyone time to research. Like I said, this might be more then one story i'm working on but i'm almost certain I can finish the first installment.

I have been freaking out. My internet has broken... But we have one computer hooked up... Found out it was the router and we are having to use the cords because HIFI aint working. ANYWAYS. I AM WORKING ON MY STORY!
