I am trying to get started a novel it will be my first one but i am at a total lack of ideas right now due to increased stress but i figure once i get the right inspiration i will kick off a good story. I was looking to write in the gothic horror genre, although most of the ideas i have somehow turn fantasy lately. Probably because i just got finished reading harry potter series but anyhow i was aiming for something real enough for my reader to consider the possibility of it being able to happen but with paranormal events and perhaps a touch of fantasy to leave people questioning can this really happen or "is it real". Well anyways if you would please throw some basic ideas out on the table to help me get the ball rolling. Thanks :)

Read Stephen King's memoirs "On Writing" - I thought that this contained some really good advice.

Good luck.

i saw that book in my library today almost picked it up. I now have a basic plot to follow sounds good so far. Im liking it so soon i have to start modeling the characters seeing how they come out i know half the stuff isnt even going to make it in the actual book but its good to have the background so you know how to make the character behave.

Was thinking about this kid, teenager and very curious dabbles in supernatural forces beyond this world with a few of his friends. Somehow manages to bring forth an evil spirit maybe a demon of some sort onto this plane of existence and it hunts them down and wreaks havoc to them and those they love. But it can only hurt anyone in the dark.

a work in progress but thats what i have come up with so far.

I have to second this.
Even though I disagree with Stephen king's approach to plot, I have to recommend this book.

As to the inspiration of what to write or how to make it different from all the stories that came before it, I have to leave that in your hands. A story is the writers baby and I can't tell you how to raise your kids. Each writer must learn to write as only they can.

I can advise you check out 101 reason to stop writing.

I know it sounds weird but this site can give you some idea of what your getting yourself into and even things not to do. Most writers will never be able to live solely off the income from their writing. You have to do it because you really really want to write, and then you have to do it alot. If you were to build a house or even a dog house, the first one will probably suck. But if you keep doing it and doing it you may be able to get good enough to write a story that a publisher will want.

Getting published is an entire other world.

i dunno about what AL said above, imma check out the links in a moment. but if you remember about a month or so back I posted a story, in the fantasy genre that ive been working on. i had bout 10-12 pages, and didnt write anything for a week or two. dunno why, and then one night i was bnored, and thinking about my plot/thesis and i gave a complete or lets say a really good overhaul. i went over some of the more confusing points of the foundation of the story, and changed them to something i did not even expect and was happily surprised with the way it turned out.

im still in a bit of a "meh" in the story, and im trying to use my tires o find the right way out of my writers mud. when i originally saw your post i thought "think "Akira" in the real world." regular ol'joe goes psi crazy and wreaks havoc for whatever reason. but what you have sounds like it could work, hope it goes well and give updates on progress.
